ADMISSION PROCEDURES

Admission and Completion Requirements

Applicants seeking admission to the master of science degree in adult education and human resource development must meet the general requirements for admission to graduate study in the Graduate School of Education and these program-specific admission criteria:

  • baccalaureate degree from a accredited college or university
  • a minimum undergraduate grade point average of approximately 3.0 (B or better)
  • two reference reports • satisfactory command of oral and written English
  • proof of immunization against measles, mumps and rubella
  • No graduate admissions testing required [for example, GRE]

To complete one of the specialized adult education and HRD programs and earn a master of science degree, students must meet these requirements:

  • complete the prescribed program of study including 30 credits beyond the baccalaureate degree, with a minimum of 24 graduate credits taken at Fordham with
  • the approval of an adviser;
  • maintain a minimum overall graduate grade point average of 3.0 (B or better);
  • complete an end-of-program comprehensive examination that measures student’s understanding of the philosophy, principles and methodologies of adult education and HRD and student’s competence in applying this material.

Before applying for admission to any program of the Graduate School of Education, carefully review its description, specific admission criteria and program of study. Questions about the program, including issues of eligibility, certification or requirements, may be addressed to the chairperson of the division within which the program is offered or to the program coordinator.

Applicants are welcome to call division offices to make appointments with faculty or division chairs to discuss program matters. The MS Adult Education/HRD program admits students throughout the academic year. Applications will not be reviewed unless they are complete.

An application is complete when all required transcripts, recommendation forms, fees and other materials have been received by the Office of Admissions. Documents submitted as part of an application become part of the records of the Graduate School of Education and will not be returned or duplicated for any purpose. Applicants will be notified of admissions decisions as soon as possible after completed applications are received and reviewed by faculty admission committees.

Following notification of admission, students should set up a phone meeting with their assigned faculty advisers to discuss their programs and course selection. Admitted students must register within one year of admission. Application materials of non-enrolled but accepted students will be destroyed after three years.
